Fishing
Salmon fishing on all local rivers remains some of the best we’ve seen in years.
Folks who used to be happy with catching a single fish are now talking about limits. Leading the way in the number of fish caught is the Coos River. Salmon are being taken from the mouth of the river and up as far as Daniel’s Creek, with the best bites between the North Bend Bridge and Marshfield Channel.
Last week, fresh fish moved into the lower bay and trolling near the jetties produced limits

Fishing
Chinook fishing on the Coos River has been excellent this week. The best bite has been in the Marshfield Channel. Trolling cut-plug herring or sardines has produced the best.
Bank fishermen are also taking fish south of the Coos Bay Boardwalk and at the end of Ferry Road in North Bend. This fishery has really come at an opportune time, because today and tomorrow is the Coos Bay STEP Derby. Fishing
The Oregon Tuna Classic finished up last weekend in Garibaldi, and local team Green Lightning Laundry didn’t fare well enough to take home the top prize – an invitation to the International Game Fish Association’s Offshore World Championship.
But 48 teams brought back 6,414 pounds of tuna to donate to Tillamook County food banks.
Top anglers in Garibaldi were: first place finisher Albie Damned with 139.3 pounds; second place, Fat Cat with 134.5 pounds; and third place, Defiance/CornFed with 129.8 pounds.
Albie Damned donated its first-place prize of $3,000 back to the Oregon Tuna Classic.
Just Keep Fishing, which had a small overall lead over Green Lightning Laundry, held on for the win despite not landing on the podium last weekend. The local team took home second place overall after a tough weekend of fishing.
Just Keep Fishing received the berth to the IGFA Offshore World Championship next May, since the tournament is now an IGFA qualifier.

Crabbing in Oregon
NEWPORT (AP) — As the Dungeness crab season wraps up on the Oregon coast, crabbers are celebrating a good season.
Fishermen have hauled in more than 23 million pounds in the past eight and a half months. That’s the fourth time in the past decade that landings have exceeded 20 million pounds. By the time crabbers bring in all of their pots by month’s end, some say they expect the total to reach 25 million pounds.
