I didn’t get the cookie or the hot dog. But my choice still isn’t great: I got a poppyseed muffin, but considering I’ve had nothing else to eat, I think it is OK.

OK, not soo bad
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009Doing something stupid
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009This weekend I treated myself to some kettle corn (a small bag that lasted a couple of days) and I had a cafe mocha at lunch yesterday with a bowl of clam chowder.
Today, I didn’t eat breakfast. One I ran out of time, and secondly, I decided that I wanted a hot dog and maybe a pastry from the farmer’s market (I’m feeling like a cookie today, I’m sorry) and somehow in my mind I have justified getting a hot dog and a cookie by not eating breakfast.
I know this is stupid…very very stupid. And I’m sorry.

Ouch

So I had convinced myself that a once-a-week treat to a blizzard was OK. It isn’t and after tonight, I don’t think I will be doing it anymore. An Oreo blizzard has something like 690 calories and 26 carbs. My little book doesn’t tell me which size that is, but I’m betting it isn’t the medium. And it doesn’t have measurement for the Tagalog blizzard, which is my new favorite blizzard.
OK, no more blizzards. If I want ice cream, it is sorbets or Skinny Cow.
Snack pack attack
Thursday, September 10th, 2009My friend Amanda had to buy donuts for the newsroom. Her son’s photo ran, and there is a rule — if your or your family’s photo makes it into the paper, you have to bring donuts.
They aren’t the most diet friendly treat but Amanda knew her duty. Before she went, she said she was going to get a muffin or two for her and I, since we are making an effort to eat better and lose a little weight.
When she got back she had two snack packs — one was apples and cheese, the other was veggies and cheese. Nice healthy snack. And easy to eat at the ol’ desk
She opted for this after seeing the muffins and chocolate chip muffins were not an options. Good for her. it takes a strong woman to say no to chocolate chip muffins. It also proves that having a diet buddy is beneficial!
Now, the real trick will be to not eat the whole thing in one setting…I’m already half-way through the apples
Diet Tea
Thursday, September 10th, 2009I like hot tea. It is something that Mr. X turned me onto. I have my favorites: Republic of Tea’s blackberry, Stash’s peach tea, and Lipton’s pyramid teas — Bavarian Wild Berry and Lemon.
Love the lemon.
I was at the store looking to replenish my lemon tea. They didn’t have any and I stood in the aisle looking very befuddled. What in the world was I suppose to do if I couldn’t find my tea!
Then my eyes gazed two interesting tea boxes — both said “Dieter’s Tea.”
I didn’t get any but I am intrigued…and want to know if anybody else has tried them. Let me know!
Comfort foods
Wednesday, September 9th, 2009Today is not turning out to be a very good day. I’ll spare you the details, but things have gone wrong as the result of my own stupidity.
It is really one of those days that I feel pretty low. It is days like this that I could crawl into a large blizzard, burger and fries, or some other type of comfort food. Or just sitting down and gorging.
Trust me, that is what I feel like doing right now. The bigger decision is whether or not to actually act on it.
Sorry
Wednesday, September 9th, 2009I know,, I’ve been quiet lately. I have been enjoying a some “down time” between my graduate classes. they started back up yesterday and I am trying to get back into the swing of it.

Disappointed
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009After a walk up Telegraph Hill, and discovering a small headache, I decided it was time to break down and eat chocolate.
While, I indulge in ice cream, I haven’t eaten but one or two candy bars since May. And today, a candy bar seemed like a good choice — at least better than getting a soda.
So I got a Snickers and I was so excited — like a little kid on Christmas excited — but once I started eating it, I quickly grew disappointed — like a little kid on Christmas that just opened a box of clothes.
It is funny how taste can change is such a short amount of time.
Orange food
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009OK, I’m an OSU alumni — Oklahoma State — so I have a natural affection for the color orange. During football and basketball season, I might even say I bleed orange.
So as I started to eat healthy, I turned to healthier foods, including those that are orange…like carrots and sweet potatoes (yams)
And they are great in stew, which can be made with lean stew meat and lots of veggies. The sweet potatoes in stew make the stew a little thicker and very orange. One bowl is all of need and I am getting lots of vitamins and other nutritious stuff.
The best part, is its orange — Texas Longhorn orange, but it is orange.
Ode to Sorbet
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009Sorbet, you are my friend.
You fill that need for something sweet
But give me no fat grams
Your carbs are right in line
and Oh, sorbet,
Oh sorbet!
You only have 120 calories!
