Sigh Sigh Sigh

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

So today I started back down the right track. The worse thing I had to eat was macaroni and cheese. But it is starting point. Hopefully the next two weeks will be better and I try the old South Beach diet again.

wish me luck

Rough go

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

So it is birthday week (my actual birthday is Wednesday). And Mr. X treated me to dinner and cake Saturday since I will be neck deep in my paper that I am way behind on, now.

It was good cake…but I only had two pieces…one Saturday the other Sunday. I opted to take the rest to work so I wouldn’t be tempted. Then I manged to go to McDonald’s for lunch today…Mr. X wanted to grab a quick bite to eat and I like him and like having lunch with him that I decided it was OK.

But I made up for that faux pas tonight with a pretty healthy soup…chicken tortellini. It has about 254 calories and 27 carbs…not too shabby in my mind.  And as I get ready to dive into the exciting history of Operation Anvil/Dragoon, I think I am going to make a yogurt smoothie.

So let me ask you

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

I haven’t written a column for the paper lately, do you guys miss seeing it weekly?

I know that it helped to keep more accountable…it was a way to vent the very things that I was facing. And admittedly they are common themes…but would you guys like to see the column every week?

Let me know

Going Nuts

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

OK, maybe not…but today has been a rough one. I am out of oatmeal and  I forgot to grab some yogurt. So I didn’t  have breakfast.

I did have time this morning to grab something from the Golden Arches, but I just didn’t want that.

So, as you can tell, I didn’t have any breakfast. Luckily, I still have the bag of nuts I bought last week at the Farmers Market — they are pecans.  A couple handfuls have held me over…keeping me from starving. More importantly, it has kept me from going to the vending machine and getting something I don’t need.

Now, I think I will go to the market and treat myself to a hot dog.

UPDATE

I didn’t get my hot dog since I managed to purchase a plant and some strawberries…I ended up going to McDonalds and getting a chicken sandwich…but I was really proud…I didn’t get any fries. That is a victory in my book! :)

Simplicity

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I am busy with my capstone project so when it comes to dinner, I try to make it as easy as possible on myself.

Sometimes that is an OK meal, sometimes it is bad (those times when pizza is just the best choice or fish and chips). Last night the solution was to cut up some keibalsa, heat it up some barbecue sauce and fixt a little macroni salad.

Probably not the best…but it covers almost all of the food groups, execpt dairy.  More importantly, today, I have an easy lunch…some keibalsa and macroni salad — and it is portioned control at lunch since there is no chance for seconds.

Now, is it lunch time?

The Double Lunch Day

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I don’t always know Mr. X’s schedule and it is hard to plan to have lunch with him.  Generally, I try to bring my lunch so I don’t starve or go to the vending machine for a snack. Today I brought some celery, humus and half a pbj. I was hungry at 10:30 so I began eating these little snacks. Well Mr. X called about noon to see if I could catch lunch at 1 p.m….and I thought, what the heck. And besides, by 1 p.m., my snacks had worn off and I was hungry. So I met him and, because I wasn’t starving I a simple chicken salad was more than enough.

I was pretty proud.

And…Skinny Cow has found a way back into my freezer. I figured that if ice cream was going to creep back into my diet, then I needed to make a better choice about it.

Walking like grandma

Monday, May 10th, 2010

I took a week off from working out after getting back from my trip to Vegas. I wasn’t quite ready to fling myself into another workout program. But on Saturday I thought I’d do a circuit and go for a run just to get my blood flowing. About three hundred squats and jumping lunges later, and I’m walking like grandma. Squats are a simple leg exercise that can be incorporated into any workout. In my circuit this weekend I did leg, upper body and core exercises. To get the most out of my workout, though, I added squats while doing my shoulder presses and arm extensions. Then I did jumping lunges for one minute in between each circuit to get my heart rate up. And two days later I still can’t walk.

Diet ice tea?

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Went for a nice, long walk…decided i deserved something cool and tasty.

OK, I just wanted a Snapple Peach Ice tea…it is a new fave. And I have been really really good today (yogurt for breakfast, half a pbj sandwich, celery and humus for lunch)

I thought the peach tea would be a treat until I realized (after I opened and  began drinking it) that it was a diet Snapple peach ice tea…so tasty and no calories!

Sometimes, being good pays off.

Operation Prep

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

So Friday was a day from hell…excuse the language.

It really was one thing after another at work.  Lots of pages, lots of copy to cut…etc etc. Stress, well that word doesn’t really describe the situation.  And chocolate was required. Sorry, I just needed something sweet, rich and not good for me.

And when I got home from my 12-hour work day, which incidentally was how my week started, I wanted just one more sweet treat. So I went to the store and bought a single brownie.

But I didn’t just get the brownie.  I decided that since my weekend would be spent in front of my trusty laptop working on my capstone paper that I should be prepared with snacks.

Yes snacks.

Good snacks like bananas and grapes. Grapes are great…you can get just as much as you want at a time for a nice sweet treat. I figured this would be better than cookies, popcorn and granola bars.

Oh, and I made sure I have plenty of coffee…mmmmm

I’m ready to start writin’
