Question: I want to know if the Coos Bay School District knows it may be violating copyright laws. It appears the media department at Marshfield High School may be distributing music and other copyrighted materials without getting permission to do so.
I am aware of fair use, and its application to education. However, fair use has very strict limitations, one of which is that it be part of the educational process. Selling unlicensed copies of copyrighted performances, or even giving them to parents, free of charge, does not constitute “educational process.”
