$7 limit

June 3rd, 2009 by Jessica

When I was out in Allegany yesterday, a woman named Paige told me recycling is a real pain in the arse because people can only turn in $7 worth a day.

I thought that sounded odd considering I’ve turned in massive amounts of empties at Fred Meyer in one go. Of course the machines will only allow me to put in about $7 worth before I have to start over, but that hasn’t been a big deal.

I chalked up Paige’s experience to recycling at a certain big box store, which I’m convinced is inherently evil. Guess again.

Today, while trying McKay’s recycling services for a change, the attendant there counted 144 of my dead soldiers and told me that’s all he could do. He explained that the store will only take 144 recyclables per person, per day.

“This isn’t a recycling place, this a grocery store,” he told me.

Sounds harsh, but he really was a nice man. Anyway, he said that a lot of “transients” come in with tons of recycling, and it’s really more than the store can handle.

I had known they had a limit because McKay’s has only so much space, but 144 seems awfully low, especially when I’m out to make the big bucks. Guess I’ll start taking my bottles to McKay’s, since they can count them by hand, and my cans to Freddie’s where the machines can take a huge load all at once. Bottles at Fred Meyer, on the other hand, must be slowly inserted one-at-a-time.

By the way, I made $7.20 for the day, so far. I’ve got a few pick ups later and some leftovers from McKay’s, but I don’t think I’ll make my daily goal. Poop.

You can thank OLCC for that 144 rule….question for the day Ms Reporter…how can the liquor commission control how many POP cans you can return per day? Or, as I like to say it…riddle me this Batman……..
