The Challenge
Here is the challenge! For 30 days starting June 1, I will attempt to collect enough cans and bottles to pay all of my bills.
I will be collecting cans on the streets, in Dumpsters, from friends and co-workers and any other place I can find them.
I expect I will need to turn in nearly 20,200 cans at a nickle apiece in order to be able to pay off my debts. I am considering this as my second job. I am picking up recyclables people do not want to deal with and turning them in myself. That way, we all benefit.
Readers should understand that “Running on Empties” is not a charity fundraiser. It is a real-life story of trying to live for one month on returnable cans and bottles. Readers are welcome to donate empties, but be advised: the money goes to me.
