Oregon police man for arson after he bragged about the blaze to his hairdresser

Friday, February 26th, 2010

There is stupid, and then there is this guy.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Salem police said one of the two men accused of setting a fire to an old training center bragged about the blaze to his hairdresser. According to court documents, a 20-year-old man told his hairdresser that he went into an old building on the former Fairview Training Center campus to smoke marijuana, then set the Jan. 27 blaze that destroyed the building. His hairdresser tipped police, who arrested the suspect.

Police arrested a second man after questioning the first man. Both face second-degree arson charges. They made their first court appearance in Marion County Friday. Both remain in jail.

Damage to the building is estimated at $50,000. The property owner had planned to demolish the building, which is one of 50 on the sprawling campus that closed in 2000.

insurance Fla. woman finds unclaimed $17,500 insurance checkNot a bad find! She can finally replace the car that was destroyed back in 1978.

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) — An 85-year-old South Florida woman who went looking for a photo of her ex-husband says she found a $17,500 insurance claim check from 1978 instead. Barbara Cosgrove found the check, dated Jan. 23, 1978, in an unopened envelope inside a nightstand drawer at her Lauderhill home. She said she doesn’t know why she hadn’t found the check sooner and had looked inside the drawer “a thousand times” before the discovery.

Cosgrove saids the check stems from an accident that occurred under the Brooklyn Bridge in 1976. A tarp filled with rainwater fell 200 feet onto her car, damaging the vehicle.

It’s unclear if Cosgrove can claim the money from the check, which was issued by an insurance company that has been declared insolvent and liquidated.

If they were clean underwear when this stunt of stupidity started l’m sure they aren’t clean anymore!

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Police expect to file charges against a 57-year-old man who was wearing only underwear in frigid temperatures when he hopped on the hood of his girlfriend’s moving car during an argument. Police have yet to identify the man or his 28-year-old girlfriend, saying they’ll release the names once they sort out what charges to file.

Police were called about 3:20 a.m. Thursday by someone reporting a man riding on the hood of a car, screaming at the woman driving it.

The woman had a bruise under her left eye and police said they found drug paraphernalia in the car.

Uniontown is about 40 miles south of Pittsburgh. The region has been hit by heavy snows and overnight temperatures were in the teens on Thursday.
