Police officer saved from bullet by badge

Monday, February 15th, 2010

And to think we thought these were just shiny bits of bling!   I am happy that this was there as opposed to him being shot!   I hope they catch this guy!

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A police officer’s badge may have saved his life when it stopped a bullet during an exchange of gunfire in North Las Vegas.

Police say the 31-year-old officer was patrolling just before 10 p.m. Saturday when he heard shots being fired in an apartment complex.

While investigating, the officer came upon a person with a gun and opened fire. The officer returned fire and was hit. But the bullet hit the badge, and the officer suffered only minor injuries.

The person with the gun fled.

Police continued to search Sunday for the suspect, who might also be injured.

The injured police officer’s name was not immediately released.

Cops: Pair allegedly use jury box to smuggle drugs

Friday, January 29th, 2010

And these two are wondering how they ended up in jail.  If they are this stupid I think it was a forgone conclusion that their life of crime would end up with 3 hots and a cot.  See ya in 5 to 10.

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — It was a dumb way to try to sneak drugs into prison. Pueblo County authorities said a 22-year-old woman worked out a plan with her boyfriend to get narcotics into jail Wednesday through a courtroom exchange at her own sentencing hearing. Officials learned of the plot because the woman in jail, Felisha Trujillo, and her boyfriend talked about the plot on a monitored phone line.

Phil Martinez, 26, allegedly dropped a bag of narcotics in the jury box before Trujillo’s hearing, when the courtroom was empty. The alleged drug drop happened minutes after elementary school students had finished a mock trial in the same courtroom.

Detectives were watching, and Martinez was arrested. Both Martinez and Trujillo face drug and contraband charges.

$500 tip leads police to $66 million in fake bills

counter 239x300 $500 tip leads police to $66 million in fake billsIf I have said this once, I have said this a thousand times.  If you are going to counterfeit currency at least know what the current denomination of the currencies are.  I really am considering writing Counterfeiting for Dummies.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysian police have arrested a Lebanese man allegedly carrying fake currency with a face value of $66 million after he tipped a hotel staff with a $500 note, an official said Friday.

The largest U.S. note currently in wide circulation is a $100 bill. But police found bundles of $1 million, $100,000 and $500 notes in the man’s hotel room in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, said Izany Abdul Ghany, head of the city’s commercial crime unit.

Hotel staff alerted police after a housekeeper received a $500 note tip and found out it was fake when she tried to convert it to local currency at a money changer, Izany said.

The man could be charged for possessing counterfeit money and, if found guilty, face up to 10 years in jail, he said.

The largest U.S. note ever printed was a special edition one for $100,000 in 1934. Bills of $500 were last printed in 1945 and are now no longer in wide circulation, according to the U.S. Treasury Department.

This is not the first time the man has been in trouble with the law in Malaysia, Izany said.

A Malaysian court charged him last week with cheating over the sale of office supplies in 2005 in a separate case. Cheating, or fraud, carries a maximum penalty of five years.

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Court papers allege that an Olympia woman, angry that her husband left her, tampered with his power tools so that he received a powerful electric shock. Carolyn Paulsen-Riat was booked Friday into the Thurston County Jail for investigation of third-degree assault, domestic violence, and second-degree malicious mischief. A judge released the 33-year-old woman on her own recognizance.

The Olympian newspaper reported that court documents said that on Jan. 1, the man was using a 220-volt table saw when he received the shock, knocking him to the ground. Thurston County sheriff’s deputies said the man did not need to go to a hospital.

In the documents, deputies said the woman told them she had reversed the wires on his power tools because she was angry he was leaving.
