Errant spike strip leaves drivers flat

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Nothing like leaving the back door open and dropping spike strips.  Sounds like they are lucky that no one was injured by this.   Rule of thumb, CLOSE THE DOORS!

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Some drivers in Newport Beach said they were left flat after a spike strip fell out of a police car and punctured their tires. A police report said the strip, which is designed to slow down fleeing drivers, fell out of a police officer’s Chevy Tahoe on Feb. 27. The report said the officer had checked out the vehicle but forgot to close the back door before leaving the police station.

At least three motorists had several tires flattened and two have filed claims with the city.

One is asking the city for $221 to cover repairs and towing fees while another wants $870 because of two flat tires on his Jaguar.

City spokeswoman Tara Finnigan said the city is looking into those claims and can’t comment.

‘Chicken-playing’ chicken lives with horse, dragon

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Alas the mighty chicken was caught and saved from death on the bumper of a car!   Good things come to those who get caught in fishing nets I guess.

GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) — A black chicken who spent two months dodging cars, coyotes and captors at a busy Glendale intersection is a sitting duck no more. Berna Arnold and her 8-year-old son said they used fishing nets to catch the elusive hen and move her to their Simi Valley home, where she is living with a horse, a bearded dragon, lizards and three other chickens.

Pasadena Humane Society animal control officers tried at least seven times in the last two months to catch the bird, which they considered a traffic hazard. A spokeswoman said the hen always flew into the trees or ran into traffic and officers would have to back off.

Witnesses named the bird Lucky.

Chicken plays chicken with drivers on busy street

They wont take me alive!

WTH?  Hasn’t someone called the PETA about this?   We need to shut this road down before a car is hurt by a chicken on it’s bumper.   Who’s out to protect us drivers from this crazy chicken PETH, People for the Ethical Treatment of Humans!  I demand equality or chicken strips.

GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) — A chicken playing chicken? That’s what’s happening on a busy Glendale street where a black hen has been dodging cars, captors and coyotes for two months. Officials say the bird has been darting into traffic outside Glendale Community College since it was first reported Nov. 20. The chicken has drawn a growing crowd of photographers and journalists as animal control officers struggle to catch it.

A spokeswoman for the Pasadena Humane Society, which handles animal control in Glendale, said the bird either runs onto the street or flies into a tree when officers approach. Hillary Gatlin said a humane trap has not worked because the chicken doesn’t weigh enough to trigger it or she isn’t interested in the feed used as bait.

Gatlin said the standoff could continue awhile.
