ROME, Ga. (AP) — Planning to drink and drive this New Year’s? A north Georgia funeral home has a deal for you. Between now and noon Thursday, drivers can visit McGuire, Jennings and Miller Funeral Home in Rome to sign a contract stating they plan to drink or take drugs and then drive on New Year’s Eve. If they die in a wreck that day, the funeral home will give them a free burial.

Services included in the package are a casket, grave, limousine and preparation of remains.

Funeral home officials said the program is designed to save lives by making partygoers think twice about drinking and driving.

Search of car turns up gift-wrapped marijuana gifts

Monday, December 28th, 2009

For all you criminal sorts out there let me give you a piece of advice. DON’T SPEED WHEN YOU HAVE DRUGS IN THE CAR!  Hello????  Better yet give up on drugs as eventually you will get caught.  If you speed, it’ll just be sooner.

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — Some people won’t be getting the Christmas presents they were expecting.

Missouri troopers seized about 20 pounds of marijuana from a car this week – some of it in luggage, and some in boxes wrapped as Christmas gifts.

The Highway Patrol says troopers found the marijuana in the car they stopped for speeding on Interstate 44 near Joplin.

Two California women in the car gave troopers permission to search the vehicle. Both were charged Tuesday with one marijuana-related count and released on $1,000 bond.

Police investigate alleged theft of illegal ecstasy pill collection

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I just hate it when that happens.  There’s nothing worse than collecting something that is illegal and then having it stolen by a criminal, it’s just not right.   It’s like there’s no honor amongst criminals.

AMSTERDAM (AP) — A man who said he spent two decades collecting Ecstasy pills of all colors and shapes as a hobby has turned to police for help after they were stolen – because he said some of them are poisonous.

Police say the 46-year-old man, who was not identified, decided to report the theft despite the illegal nature of the collection because he was worried about the possible consequences if anybody were to swallow one of the poisoned pills.

It was not immediately clear why about 40 red-and-white pills out of the 2,400-pill-strong collection would be poisoned, but the police said they fear the drugs could be lethal if swallowed.

“That’s really the main reason he came to the police,” said police spokeswoman Esther Naber, adding the man “knows he’s not going to get his collection back.”

A report in De Volkskrant daily Thursday said the man claimed he was not a drug dealer or user.

“I’ve tried it before but didn’t like it,” the report quoted him saying. “My passion for collecting comes from the varied collection of colors, shapes and logos that are printed on the pills.”

According to a police statement, the man gathered the pills over a 20 year period and carefully stored them in coin collecting folders.

The folders were allegedly taken during a break-in Wednesday at the man’s home in Eerbeek, 56 miles (90 kilometers) east of Amsterdam.

Police spokesman Naber said investigators tended to believe the man’s story.

“Why would you make something like this up?” she said.

Prosecutors and drug enforcement officials are still weighing whether to charge him with a crime.

“Given that the pills have disappeared, for the moment there’s no evidence to support a possession charge,” Naber said.

The pills’ street value is estimated at euro11,000 ($16,200).

Cops: Woman smuggled drugs to inmate with kiss

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Love knows no bounds it seems and no bond is stronger than one that leads you to joining someone in prison.   I say throw the book at her.

MERCER, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania woman has been ordered to stand trial on charges she passed a drug-filled balloon to a state prison inmate while kissing him. State police said guards at the State Correctional Institution-Mercer became suspicious when an inmate appeared to swallow something after a prolonged kiss with a visitor on Oct. 19.

When the inmate wouldn’t tell guards what he swallowed, they put him in a cell where they could monitor his bathroom visits and found a balloon filled with marijuana three days later.

Police charged the inmate, and the woman with conspiracy to smuggle contraband and other charges. Both are 41 years old.

A district judge ordered them to stand trial at a hearing on Monday.
