Dance troupe’s causes terror scare

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (AP) — A dance troupe from Florida caused a rush-hour terror scare when they ditched their cars in the Lincoln Tunnel and tried to run to a TV appearance in Manhattan while wearing their camouflage costumes.

The dancers drove about 1,000 miles so they could appear Wednesday on BET’s live “106 & Park” show. But they hit traffic at the tunnel, which connects New Jersey and New York City and is just two miles from the TV studio.

The five young women and three young men decided to sprint the rest of the way. They left their adult chaperones behind and ran through the toll plaza.

Armed officers with Port Authority police and the FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force gave chase, closing the tunnel for 45 minutes.

They eventually offered to escort the dancers to the show, but the producers told them it was too late.

The troupe headed back to Jacksonville, Fla.

Grandmother’s ashes in favorite potted plant sold by mistake at Florida yard sale

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Grandma Marge’s ashes weren’t for sale, but a bargain hunter in Florida walked away with them anyway.

A touch of Grandma Marge was put in a potted violet, her favorite plant, after her death. The plant was accidentally sold at a weekend yard sale in the Panhandle town of Fort Walton Beach.

Piper Gaffrey had stepped away from the yard sale when her husband sold the violet for an undisclosed amount, not realizing some of Marjorie Potts Gaffrey was in the soil.

Piper Gaffrey scattered some of her 99-year-old grandmother in the violet when she died in February.

When she discovered it had been sold, she pleaded on Facebook for the buyer to take care of it. Fortunately, the plant was bought by someone she knew. It was returned and is thriving in Gaffrey’s new home.

Sounds like a case of buyers remorse here!   But when purchasing sex I suppose you are buying the whole package.  Yuck!

Fla. man says he was robbed after ending negotiations for sex with woman over bad teeth

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A man went to the police after getting robbed by a woman he intended to pay for sex, but refused when she flashed a smile full of bad teeth. The man told investigators he and a 25-year-old woman were negotiating a price until he noticed her dental problems. He told police that after he resisted, she snatched a checkbook containing $78 from his shirt pocket and fled.

The man told authorities the woman did not realize that he had tucked a wad of cash into her bra and that she got scared and ran away.

The woman was arrested on a robbery charge.

Gainesville police said it was unlikely the man would face misdemeanor charges for solicitation, because he was the victim of a felony.

insurance Fla. woman finds unclaimed $17,500 insurance checkNot a bad find! She can finally replace the car that was destroyed back in 1978.

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) — An 85-year-old South Florida woman who went looking for a photo of her ex-husband says she found a $17,500 insurance claim check from 1978 instead. Barbara Cosgrove found the check, dated Jan. 23, 1978, in an unopened envelope inside a nightstand drawer at her Lauderhill home. She said she doesn’t know why she hadn’t found the check sooner and had looked inside the drawer “a thousand times” before the discovery.

Cosgrove saids the check stems from an accident that occurred under the Brooklyn Bridge in 1976. A tarp filled with rainwater fell 200 feet onto her car, damaging the vehicle.

It’s unclear if Cosgrove can claim the money from the check, which was issued by an insurance company that has been declared insolvent and liquidated.
