Postal worker pleads guilty to stealing 30,000-plus DVDs sent by Netflix to customers

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I sure hop this guy likes the movie selection in prison.  If he dies in prison I am sure he’ll win a Darwin award for stupidity.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A former postal service employee has pleaded guilty to stealing more than 30,000 DVDs that moved through a western Massachusetts post office.

Myles Weathers, formerly of Springfield, took DVDs that were mailed by Netflix to customers for a year beginning in January 2007.

Federal prosecutors say the movie rental company alerted Springfield post office officials that a suspiciously high number of DVDs were disappearing. As many as 100 movies a week were disappearing.

Weathers was arrested in February 2008 after investigators filmed him taking DVDs from packages and slipping them into his backpack.

He faces 10 months to 16 months in prison and restitution costs of about $38,000 at his Dec. 23 sentencing.

Weathers’ attorney did not immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday.

Woman hides 19 bags of crack in bra

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I really do think getting a bigger wonder bra, or maybe implants might have been cheaper in the long run.  This bra stuffing attemp is likely to cost way more than either of the other options.

QUINCY, Mass. (AP) — A woman was arrested after admitting to police that she hid 19 bags of crack cocaine in her bra. Sandra Sanborn was charged Sunday with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute following a tip to Quincy’s police drug unit.

Capt. John Dougan said when detectives approached the 33-year-old woman at a Quincy building, she was holding a bag containing crack cocaine in her hand. Dougan said Sanborn then produced 19 more bags tucked away in her bra.

Police seized the drugs, two cell phones and an SUV.

Dougan said Sanborn is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court.

It was not immediately clear if Sanborn had hired an attorney yet.

The bottle of 1945 Mouton Rothschild plus three other bottles of wine valued at $300 to $875 were stolen from Hopkinton Wine & Spirits last week.

Store security video had been shown on local television newscasts, and Boston police received a call Sunday from someone who recognized the suspect in the video.

The caller contacted the suspect, got the wine and turned it in to Boston police. They in turn contacted Hopkinton police, who returned the wine to the store owner.

There have been no arrests.

Store owner Clelland Johnson tells The MetroWest Daily News that he’s just happy to have the wine back.
