Pot’s in the mail: Michigan woman tells police she got 2 pounds of marijuana from Arizona

BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Bills, catalogs, junk mail – marijuana?

Indeed, police say a surprise 2-pound package of marijuana arrived in the mail last week at one elderly woman’s home in southern Michigan’s Blackman Township, which is about 75 miles west of Detroit.

The woman called police. Detectives don’t know who sent the weed. They learned that the Arizona return address on the package was bogus.

Police say the pot is worth about $2,400.

Deputy Director Jon Johnston told The Jackson Citizen Patriot that the marijuana either was sent to the woman’s home by mistake or someone planned to snatch it from the mailbox before she checked.

The pot will be destroyed.

Police: Drunken driver called 911 on herself

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Another potential Darwin nominee.  So you are drunk and driving and you know you shouldn’t be.  Do you (A) call the police on yourself and pull over to await the DUI, or (B) pull over and have a friend take you home and risk well… nothing and let it be a learning lesson.  Yep, it’s (A) give me the ticket!

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Police in Michigan have released a copy of a 911 call where a suspected drunken driver chats with an emergency dispatcher for about 20 minutes before she is pulled over and arrested.

In the first moments of the March 13 call, the dispatcher asks: “Are you intoxicated?” and the woman replies: “Absolutely.” The dispatcher pleads with the woman to pull over and she tells him she “shouldn’t be driving.”

The dispatcher helped officers find the driver in East Lansing.

Police say the 27-year-old Charlotte resident placed the call at 5:40 a.m. The woman was issued a citation for operating while intoxicated and faces up to 90 days in jail. Her name hasn’t been released.

Police released the call Friday to The Associated Press under a Freedom of Information Act request.

There’s nothing like getting busted for a crime when the reality is, stupidity should be the crime.   This guy needs some help or he’ll never make it on the new Fox show “Are you smarter than a toddler?”

FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Authorities said a man accused of stealing a car then reporting it stolen remains in custody after telling police he was robbed at gunpoint while trying to buy crack cocaine with a credit card. The Flint Journal said the man reported Thursday night that a 2003 Chevy Malibu had been stolen.

Police reports indicated the vehicle was previously stolen out of Lapeer, about 50 miles north-northwest of Detroit.

The suspect is being lodged at the Genesee County Jail.

No further details were released.

Judge jails woman in polygamy case

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Love ‘em and leave em obviously means a bit more to this woman than most.  You would thing she’d want to divorce them first though.

BAD AXE, Mich. (AP) — There are matchmakers and then there are match breakers, such as the Huron County judge who sent a woman to jail for polygamy and gave her six months to divorce one of her husbands. Lorri L. Freesland of Kinde pleaded guilty to the charge in December.

Authorities have said she wasn’t divorced from the man she married in 2000 in Macomb County’s Clinton Township when she married her second husband Aug. 3, 2007. Her first husband moved to Alaska in 2006.

Prosecutor Timothy J. Rutkowski told The Bay City Times that Circuit Judge M. Richard Knoblock on Monday sentenced the 43-year-old Freesland to 15 days in jail and one year of probation. He also told her she had six months to resolve her marital status.
