Police: Woman attempts robbery, tries to eat note

Monday, May 10th, 2010

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life it’s that robbing (or trying to rob) a bank is a bad idea and it’s made much worse if there is a uniformed officer standing in line behind you.   The best possible outcome is a shoot out where you have a shot at a Darwin award.   Here’s yer sign!

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in Ohio said a woman tried to rob a bank with a note and then attempted to eat it once she saw a uniformed officer in line behind her. FBI Special Agent Harry Trombitas said the woman wearing sunglasses handed the teller the note at a Columbus Chase bank branch Wednesday morning.

Trombitas said in a statement that the off-duty officer wasn’t aware of what was going on, but when the woman noticed him, she grabbed the note and fled.

Outside, the officer arrested the 40-year-old Columbus woman, Lois Harvey. Trombitas said she tried to swallow the note as she was nabbed, then coughed it up onto the sidewalk.

Harvey remained jailed Thursday after a judge set bond at $250,085. Court records do not list her attorney.

Ohio police seek bank robber who handed two $100 bills to passers-by as he ran away

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Come on this can’t be for real I am sure they were just doing this to hype up the new robin hood flick coming out.  What kind of robber gives away the loot?

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police in Columbus are looking for a man they say robbed a bank near downtown, then handed two $100 bills to passers-by as he ran away. FBI Special Agent Harry Trombitas said the man robbed a Huntington Bank branch early Monday afternoon after showing a teller a gun in his waistband. Trombitas said the man was running up the street when he encountered a mother and daughter window-shopping.

The robber stopped and gave them each a $100 bill, assured them it was real, then kept running.

Trombitas said the mother and daughter from the Cleveland area were in town for a visit to Ohio State.

They took the money to the nearest bank which turned out to be the Huntington branch that was just robbed, and there told police what happened.

Boy, 8, takes family van for gas, crashes

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I am guessing that Grand Theft Auto or some similar driving game may have had something to do with it.  I’d say it’s a good thing he wasn’t near an airport and had been playing Microsoft Flight Simulator.

BETHEL, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man says his 8-year-old son was just trying to do him a favor and get gasoline when the boy drove the family’s minivan and crashed it.

James Crouch says he didn’t even realize his son, Jordan, was out of the house Friday morning until a Clermont County sheriff’s deputy came to the family’s home in Bethel and woke him up to let him know what happened.

The boy says he used keys that he found in his mother’s purse and backed the car out of the driveway. He started going down the road at about 5 mph but could barely reach the pedals and lost control, crashing into a telephone pole. He wasn’t hurt.

Crouch says Jordan was still in his pajamas and just wanted to do something nice. He says he’s going to watch his son more closely now.
