Boulder crashes through Tennessee home, barely misses 75-year-old woman asleep in bed

Isn’t Bowling for Seniors illegal?   Sounds like she’s more than just lucky that this rock didn’t do worse.  Healing from a broken hip is hard, healing from getting hit by a 10 foot rock probably much harder!

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Emergency officials say a boulder about the size of a compact car crashed into an apartment in eastern Tennessee, barely missing a woman sleeping in her bedroom.

Fire Chief David Jackson in Rogersville says 75-year-old Elizabeth Allred was lucky that the 10-foot-wide boulder didn’t hit her bed straight on. Instead, it crashed nearby and the imploding wall sent her hospital bed rolling across the room. She was at home recovering from a broken hip when it happened Monday morning. Allred told Jackson it felt like a train crashed into her room.

Jackson said the boulder broke loose from a bank above the dwelling during recent rains.

The Kingsport Times-News reported that Allred was listed in good condition at a hospital on Tuesday.

Cops: Man who took champagne nabbed for 63rd time

If this guy doesn’t put the ‘H’ in habitual I don’t know who does.  It is said that after 21 times of doing something it is a habit, after 3 times that I think this is this guys life.   He needs another ‘H’ word, HELP!

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police said a West Side man who allegedly tried to walk out of a store with three expensive bottles of champagne under his jacket now has 63 arrests under his belt. Officers said the 70-year-old man was initially charged with misdemeanor retail theft, but the charge was upgraded to a felony Monday after authorities look over his extensive police record, which included 62 prior arrests.

Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Michael Fitzpatrick said the man was arrested late Sunday afternoon after allegedly swiping champagne from a Lake View neighborhood Whole Foods store. Fitzpatrick said the suspect has used at least 50 aliases over the years.

The champagne was valued at $135.

Man, 81, finishes race after borrowing a catheter

Okay in news there is weird and then there is WEIRD!  This is the latter for sure.   Pardon me but I have a mile to go and my catheter is broken, could you possibly spare one?  HUH?

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Organizers of the Twin Cities Marathon said they won’t disqualify an 81-year-old runner who won his age group after using a borrowed catheter. Jerry Johncock of Shelbyville, Mich., was sidelined at an aid station about 21 miles into Sunday’s race because a blood clot prevented him from urinating. The aid station had no catheter, but a spectator stepped forward to offer Johncock a catheter he had in his car.

Aides helped insert the catheter and Johncock went on to finish in a little over 5 hours 22 minutes.

So, you think you had a tough week?

You know I really hate it when that happens.  First it’s recovering from a crime, and then you get shot trying to learn about guns.   That’ll really put a damper on your week, but at 80 years old, it might be a highlight!

GROVEPORT, Ohio (AP) — An 80-year-old Ohio man is recovering from a week in which he was beaten during a home invasion and then shot while trying to learn about guns. Ralph Needs said he wouldn’t want anyone else to experience what he’s been through. He was tied up and pistol-whipped when at least three intruders broke into his Columbus area home on Sept. 20. Needs’ nose was broken and his pickup truck, a computer and credit cards were taken.

Four days later, Needs was shot in the hand during a self-defense lesson. A 9 mm pistol went off as one of his sons was loading it.
