So, you think you had a tough week?

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

You know I really hate it when that happens.  First it’s recovering from a crime, and then you get shot trying to learn about guns.   That’ll really put a damper on your week, but at 80 years old, it might be a highlight!

GROVEPORT, Ohio (AP) — An 80-year-old Ohio man is recovering from a week in which he was beaten during a home invasion and then shot while trying to learn about guns. Ralph Needs said he wouldn’t want anyone else to experience what he’s been through. He was tied up and pistol-whipped when at least three intruders broke into his Columbus area home on Sept. 20. Needs’ nose was broken and his pickup truck, a computer and credit cards were taken.

Four days later, Needs was shot in the hand during a self-defense lesson. A 9 mm pistol went off as one of his sons was loading it.

Chicken owner shoots own leg while hunting opossum

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I think is taking protecting his chicken a bit far, shooting yourself in the leg to show your chickens you mean business when it comes to protecting them!   I am sure the opossum is still laughing about this one.  Opossum 1, Chicken Owner 0.

Larry Tenbrink of Mount Vernon was watching TV when he heard his chickens “carrying on” late Sunday. He figured the problem was the opossum that had already killed more than a dozen of his chickens over the past few months.

Tenbrink grabbed his .22 caliber pistol, headed outside and spotted an opossum the size of a large cat wandering his property. But he accidentally pulled the trigger too early, sending a bullet through his lower right thigh.

The 61-year-old handyman told the Skagit Valley Herald on Monday that he’s back home after a trip to the hospital. And though the opossum is free for now, he’ll be hunting it again. But next time, he says he’ll use a trap.

Mom, 80, shoots at deputies as son hides in closet

Friday, August 21st, 2009

She certainly isn’t the picture of a gun totin momma at 80, but I guess the gun makes it so.  I am thinking 3 shots at police is going to get her a nice one bedroom cottage made of concrete for the rest of her days, kind of a home away from home.

(AP) — An 80-year-old West Tennessee woman and her son are being held in jail after deputies said she shot at them when they came to arrest the man. Sheriff Melvin Bond said the elderly woman fired several shots at officers Friday night in a standoff that began when deputies tried to capture her 60-year-old son.

The Jackson Sun quoted Bond who said four deputies went to the woman’s mobile home on a tip that her son was there. Bond said officers heard the man talking inside the trailer and – when they knocked on the door – the woman opened it, slammed it shut and fired a shot through it.

The deputies took cover and, during the hour-long standoff, two more shots were fired through the door.

There were no injuries. The man was found hiding in a closet.

Bear intruder takes 3 rounds from shotgun, 5 shots from a handgun, 2 from rifle before going down

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

I have to wonder if this wasn’t excessive force.  Yogi bear is one tough old bear for sure.  I am surprised this person had enough time to shoot 10 times with 3 guns.  MENTAL NOTE: Don’t break into this guys house, he is heavily armed!

Okay so this ISN'T that bear, it's still a nice big bear!

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A black bear that broke into a Boulder County home and charged at the homeowner was killed only after three rounds from a shotgun, five shots from a handgun and two from a rifle. Paul Fischer fired birdshot and a rubber bullet at the 120-pound bear it was found rummaging through the kitchen early Monday morning. The family escaped when the third shot seemed to disorient the bear.

Sheriff’s deputies found a bear trying to claw his way through a screen door when they arrived. Sgt. Lance Enholm fired his handgun five times at the bear after determining it was severely wounded.

Enholm says the bear kept moving toward him and was finally felled and killed by two shots from his rifle.
