Crime of fashion: Police warn Milwaukee man against changing his clothes while driving

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (AP) — A driver who tried to change his sweaty clothes while driving through a Milwaukee suburb was stopped by police but let off with a warning. Police said that when they pulled the 54-year-old over in Brookfield Aug. 13, he complained he was uncomfortable in his clothes because he had spent a sweltering day at the Wisconsin State Fair.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that police warned the man against indecent exposure and advised him to finish changing at home.

College says new e-mail font will save money

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

I want to know how much money went into determining which font is the cheapest to print.  Sounds like someone being busy to be busy and probably on the taxpayers dime.   Just so you know I haven’t changed the font on this blog to save your printing costs, sorry.

arial College says new e mail font will save moneyGREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin college has found a new way to cut costs with e-mail – by changing the font.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has switched the default font on its e-mail system from Arial to Century Gothic. It says that while the change sounds minor, it will save money on ink when students print e-mails in the new font.

Diane Blohowiak is the school’s director of computing. She says the new font uses about 30 percent less ink than the previous one.

That could add up to real savings, since the cost of printer ink works out to about $10,000 per gallon.

Blohowiak says the decision is part of the school’s five-year plan to go green. She tells Wisconsin Public Radio it’s great that a change that’s eco-friendly also saves money.

Man cited for rocking out to John Denver

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Bon Jovi I could see, AC/DC I could see but getting cited for ‘rocking out’ to John Denver is pretty weird.  I like his music but wouldn’t have it cranked loud enough to incur the wrath of the Fond Du Lac police.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) — Police responding to a complaint of loud noise have cited a Fond du Lac man for “rocking out” to the music of John Denver. A police who responded to the man’s apartment last week could hear Denver’s music through the door. The officer pounded on the door but the man didn’t answer. Finally the officer found out the man’s name from a neighbor and called to him, bringing the man to the door.

When asked why he had the music so loud, the man said he was “rocking out.”

The Reporter newspaper in Fond du Lac reported that the 42-year-old was cited for unnecessary loud noise. The ticket could result in a fine of about $210.

The late Denver is known for such hits as “Rocky Mountain High” and “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Woman calls 911 to report herself as drunk driver

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Don’t mess with me, I am drunk, driving and not afraid to turn myself in.  This lady did just exactly that, talk about weird.

NEILSVILLE, Wis. (AP) — The call came into the 911 dispatcher: “I don’t want to hurt anybody. I’m drunk.” And with that, Mary Strey, 49, of Granton, reported herself as a drunken driver about three miles northeast of Neilsville in central Wisconsin.

Clark County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jim Backus said Monday that Strey’s call on Oct. 24 led deputies to cite her for misdemeanor drunken driving with a blood-alcohol level double the legal limit to drive. She makes her first court appearance Dec. 10.

Backus said drunken drivers reporting themselves is rare.

In the 911 call, Strey said she wanted to report a drunken driver and the dispatcher asked if she was behind the suspect vehicle. “I am them,” Strey said. She then followed the dispatcher’s advice to pull over and turn on her flashers, telling him she had been “drinking all night long.”
